Just mix red wine, sugar, lemon and orange peel, cloves and cinnamon. You can also throw in vanilla for an extra sweet kick. Some believe that the Piña Colada dates back to the 19th century when a Puerto Rican pirate used a cocktail that contained coconut, pineapple and white rum to boost his crew's morale. There are many others who claim to have invented the drink. But the earliest mention seems to be in a 1950 New York Times article that reported "Drinks in the West Indies range from Martinique's famous rum punch to Cuba's Piña Colada (rum, pineapple and coconut milk)." "Red Beer" has been a popular drink in working class bars for generations. The recipes vary from bar to bar, but always contain tomato juice, V-8, or bloody mary mix. The Michelada made its first appearance in Mexicali at the “Bar los V-tarros” where the owner, Mr. Camacho, liked to experiment with drink mixes to find the perfect antidote for the hot, sticky climate. IPA style beer developed out of an idea from the 1700s. When shipping ale to India, adding hops to the beer increased the longevity of the brew. Brewers thought that hops preserved the beer for long voyages to hot climates.
